【2015MWC】Rocchip and Intel Has Jointly Launched the 64Bit Communication Solution SoFIA 3G-R

2015-03-03

Rockchip and Intel have jointly launched the 64bit quad-core 3G communication solution SoFIA 3G-R at 2015MWC on March 2. SoFIA 3G-R is Rockchip’s first integrated communication platform for entry level and cost effective tablets, phablets, and smartphone. Smartphones and phablets based on SoFIA 3G-R have been shown to the public for the first time.

By connecting 64bit multicore processor with 3G or 4G LTE, this integrated communication chip has integrated application processor, imaging sensor, graphics processor, audio system, communication connection and power management into a single system chipsets. This integration would help the OEMs to provide the rapidly growing entry-level and cost effective market segments with fully functional tablets, phablets and smartphones at affordable prices.

It is learned that this solution is based on the Intel Atom processor, 3G modem and connectivity technology. The new product is part of the Intel® Atom™ x3-C3000 processor series. Specifically it is called the Intel® Atom™ x-3 C3230RK processor.

Rockchip has shown smartphones and phablets from 4 to 8 inch. Those smartphones are all powered by Intel 64bit Quad Core processor, and they all support Android Lollipop system. Devices based on SoFIA 3G-R are expected to be available in the first half of 2015.

Rockchip’s years of SoC product line experience and strong market presence in China are highly complementary with Intel’s mature baseband technology and international marketing resources.

Chenfeng, CMO of Rockchip, expressed that, “At MWC, Rockchip and Intel have announced the latest communication processor SoFIA 3G-R jointly developed by our two companies. We are proud to show it at this event. We two companies all expect to have a long and productive cooperation.”
